1. Department of Pedodontics

Mission of the Department
Pedodontics is the branch of Dentistry which provides dental care to children. Prevention , interception and rehabilitation of the oral health problems of children in all aspects is taken care for the betterment of their oral health. Department of Pedodontics was established in the year 1982 in Govt. Dental College, Calicut. Post graduation started in 2005.  Oral health problems from newborns up to   children in the age group of 13 years were   managed and   treated in the department.

2. Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Department of Oral & maxillofacial surgery deals with the diagnosis & management of diseases & disorders of the face & jaws. It includes routine dental extractions, surgical removal of impacted teeth, removal of cysts & tumors, treatment of TMJ & salivary gland disorders, management of oral malignancies, cosmetic correction of facial deformities & treatment of maxillofacial trauma.

3. Department of Periodontics
Department of Periodontics is equipped to meet the increase in demand & need to treat gum diseases of various types. It has all modern equipment & facilities to provide state of the art treatments including ultrasonic scaling & root planing, various flap surgeries, periodontal plastic surgery including root coverage procedures & bone grafting.

4. Department of Orthodontics
Orthodontics is one of the demanding branch, due to the increasing concern for facial aesthetics. Being a referral department, it caters to orthodontic and orthognathic problems, which are treated by a multidisciplinary approach. Advanced treatment services provided include removable & fixed ( Beggs & Edgewise) appliances, orthodontic management of cleft lip & palate and growth modulation therapy (Dentofacial orthopedics)

5. Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology
Department of Oral Pathology deals with the laboratory diagnosis and histopathological examination of various oral and dental lesions. Other facilities provided include biopsy, staining for oral cancer screening etc.

6. Department of Conservative Dentistry
Primary goal of Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics is to restore the teeth to full function & appearance in an aesthetically pleasing manner with as little loss of healthy tooth structure as possible. The treatment provided include various fillings, root canal treatment, surgical endodontics, endodontic implants, bleaching, & management of traumatized teeth.

7. Department of Prosthodontics
Department of Prosthodontics deals with restoration of oral & dental structures using life like prosthesis to recreate lost function & aesthetics.
The treatment facilities provided include complete dentures, removable & fixed partial dentures, maxillofacial prosthesis including obturators, various splints to stabilize fracture of   jaw bones and Implants

The PG course was started in the department of Prosthodontics in the year 1994 with an yearly intake of 2 students upto the year 2010-2011. From the academic year 2011-2012 the number of PG seats was increased from 2 to 3. Over the years around 28 students have passed out as postgraduates from this department.

8. Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology

Oral Medicine is the branch of dentistry, which fosters a scientific understanding between the fields of dentistry and medicine. Not only does it concentrate on diagnosis of oral diseases and their treatment, but also has opened new avenues for research.
The Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology started functioning as an independent department of Government Dental College, Calicut in1982. The department became fully fledged by the year 2005 with the sanctioning of the Post Graduate course
